The Science Behind Keinzy™ Pure

How KDF and Calcium Sulfite work together to reduce chlorine and other unwanted elements in your shower water?

Start with the problem

  • Your Shower Water Is More Than Just Water

Municipal water is commonly treated with chlorine to help control harmful microorganisms and keep water safe as it travels through distribution systems. While this treatment is important for drinking-water safety, residual chlorine remains in the water when it reaches your home. During a shower, that treated water comes into direct contact with your hair and skin. This is why point-of-use shower filtration can be used to help reduce residual chlorine before the water reaches you.

  • What happens when that water meets your hair and skin every day?

Every shower exposes your hair and skin to the water coming directly from your tap. While chlorine is intentionally added to municipal water to help control harmful microorganisms, residual chlorine can also interact with the skin and hair during repeated exposure. Research has found that chlorinated bathing water can reduce the skin’s ability to retain moisture, particularly in sensitive skin, which may contribute to dryness and irritation. On the hair, repeated exposure to chlorinated water can contribute to oxidative stress and damage to the hair cuticle and keratin structure, potentially leaving hair feeling drier, rougher, and more prone to breakage.

That’s why the quality of your shower water matters. Keinzy™ Pure is designed to reduce residual chlorine at the point of use—before that water reaches your hair and skin.

Why shower filtration is different!

Filtering shower water presents a unique challenge compared with filtering drinking water. A shower filter has to work with warm water flowing quickly through a compact filter cartridge, leaving only a short amount of contact time between the water and the filtration media. That means the filtration technology needs to be selected carefully for these specific conditions. Keinzy™ Pure combines KDF and Calcium Sulfite media, two complementary filtration technologies designed to work efficiently in a shower environment and help reduce residual chlorine before the water reaches your hair and skin.

  • How Does KDF Help Reduce Chlorine?

As your shower water passes through the KDF media, the copper and zinc help react with and reduce free chlorine in the water. This means water with little to no residual chlorine reaches your hair and skin during your shower. It’s a simple filtration step designed to make your everyday shower water cleaner and more comfortable.

  • Calcium Sulfite: Fast-Acting Chlorine Reduction

Calcium sulfite works quickly to reduce residual chlorine as water passes through the filter. Together with KDF, it provides an additional layer of chlorine reduction, helping deliver cleaner, more comfortable shower water to your hair and skin.

  • Two Technologies. One Filtration System.

Rather than relying on a single filtration medium, Keinzy™ Pure combines KDF and Calcium Sulfite to work together as water passes through the filter. This multi-stage system helps significantly reduce chlorine, along with certain impurities, sediments, metals, and bacteria—delivering cleaner, more comfortable shower water.

KDF vs. Activated Carbon

Activated carbon works mainly through adsorption, trapping certain impurities on its surface. For effective filtration, it generally benefits from sufficient contact time between the water and the carbon. In a shower, however, water moves quickly through a compact filter, leaving limited contact time. KDF works through a different process, using a copper-zinc medium that reacts with free chlorine as water passes through it. This makes KDF particularly useful for point-of-use applications like shower filters, where fast water flow is a key consideration.

Claims You May Hear❌❌

We’d Rather Tell You the Truth.

“Softens hard water” ,  “Removes everything from your water”

Some shower filter brands make big promises—softening hard water, removing every impurity, or solving every hair and skin concern. We believe you deserve something more valuable than impressive-sounding claims: clear, honest information.

Water softening is very different from filtration. Hard water contains dissolved calcium and magnesium, and actually softening it requires a dedicated ion-exchange process designed to capture these hardness minerals. These systems use specialized resin with a defined treatment capacity and require periodic regeneration to restore that capacity.

That’s why genuine water softening is not something a small shower-filter cartridge can simply accomplish. A compact shower filter can be designed to target specific substances such as residual chlorine, but turning hard water into genuinely softened water requires a purpose-built softening system with enough treatment capacity for the volume and hardness of the water being treated.

A filter is not a water softener. And we believe you deserve to know the difference.

So What Does Keinzy™ Pure Actually Do?

Keinzy™ Pure is designed for a specific purpose: helping reduce residual chlorine and certain impurities in your shower water using a targeted combination of KDF and Calcium Sulfite filtration media. It is not a water softener, and it is not designed to remove every dissolved substance from your water.

We don't believe in promising what a shower filter cannot realistically do. We believe in being clear about what our technology is designed to do—and letting the results speak for themselves.
